IMPROVED POST SEAL FOR CUMMINS FUEL FILTERS

Baldwin is pleased to announce a new and improved post seal for Cummins fuel filters. The ES24D D-ring post seal is now furnished with our BF957 and BF1200 series fuel filters used on Cummins engines. This external post seal is designed to fit two different mounting heads. This change has been implemented to standardize the post seal for these applications and to prevent tearing problems that may occur with the original ES24 O-ring on some Cummins bases.

The need for a change in the post seal design results from the design and availability of two Cummins fuel filter bases. One base incorporates a post seal gland at the base of the threaded stud which allows the post seal to right itself after it has been fitted over the stud. As the seal rights itself within the gland, it takes its naturally desired shape and fits comfortably between the mounting base and the filter baseplate, thereby preventing the possibility of failure due to undesired compressive and twisting forces.

The other Cummins base does not incorporate the post seal gland. On this
base, an improperly designed seal will uncomfortably attempt to seal between the mounting base and the filter baseplate with tearing possibly occurring.

The new Baldwin D-ring design allows for complete and fail proof seating on either of these Cummins bases. The slightly looser fit of the D-ring to the mounting base stud results in less distortion of the post seal during installation. The geometry of the D-ring automatically allows the seal to right itself at the base of the stud should any distortion occur during the installation. The compression seal produced by the D-ring between the mounting base and the filter baseplate assures a complete seal in the area of the fuel system.

To summarize, the new ES24D D-ring post seal is now supplied with all Cummins replacement fuel filters previously specifying the ES24 O-ring. This D-ring has been proven to be a improved replacement post seal for both Cummins filter bases as compared to the previous Baldwin O-ring or the OEM lathe cut gasket.
