Testing Your Cooling System
To effectively determine if your cooling system is in balance, you must test your coolant. We recommend the cooling system be tested at least twice a year and preferably at every service interval. Because testing is so important, Baldwin Filters offers easy-to-use test kits:
When you need to replace lost coolant, use a 50-50 mix of low-silicate antifreeze and water (as per GM 6803-M specifications). Remember, it is important to maintain the proper level of SCAs in the system. Add the correct amount of BTE or BTA PLUS for the volume of coolant being replaced. If over half of the coolant has been lost, flush and drain the system. Refill with new coolant and pre-charge according to recommendations. Any time the coolant fluid is replaced, it is advised that the cooling system be drained and cleaned with Baldwin Coolant System Cleaner (CSC).
